During the annual Phalgun Mela, the number of pilgrims increases significantly. With only a few days left for the commencement of Khatu Shyam Mela 2026, the administration has begun preparations, and several major changes are expected this year.

Khatu Mela May Be Reduced to 8 Days Instead of 12

Traditionally, the Khatu Shyam Ji Phalgun Mela is organized for 12 days. During the first 3–4 days, more than one lakh devotees visit the temple daily, while in the remaining days, nearly 20 lakh devotees arrive for darshan.

Considering crowd management and safety concerns, the administration is planning to reduce the duration of the fair from 12 days to just 8 days. If approved, Khatu Shyam Mela 2026 may be organized between 21 February and 28 February 2026.

Major Changes Planned for Khatu Shyam Mela 2026

Significant changes in exit routes to control heavy crowds.
Earlier, 10 exit lines led towards Kala Bhavan and 4 towards Kabutar Chowk. Now, 4 of the Kala Bhavan exit lines will be diverted towards Guwad Chowk.
CCTV surveillance will be installed on Ringas and Manda routes to monitor crowd movement.
A foot-over bridge will be constructed at the 75 Feet Ground, allowing devotees to cross over queues safely.
The height of barricading will be increased to prevent people from crossing barriers.
Parking areas will be expanded to reduce traffic congestion.
